Variable Darner Ovipositing

Darners do the darnest things! These photos, taken on 9/12/2012 at our McCloud pond show a Variable Darner (Aeshna interrupta) female ovipositing in
various materials:
Here she oviposits into sand under water. Note the blue color that shows in her eyes in these shots!
As she did so, the froglets didn't seem to even be interested!
Above, she oviposits into a wood where it is under water, but later she was seen ovipositing into (?) dry wood outside the pond!
Above, she oviposits into a rock under water, but later she was seen ovipositing into (?) dry rocks outside the pond!
